Tukaone Mwaloni Camp

Tukaone Mwaloni Camp is the newest of the three camps run by the family-owned Tukaone company, and the quietest in its siting. It stands in the Turner Area of Central Serengeti, thirteen kilometres from Seronera Airstrip, against a backdrop of lush acacia woodland with open plains and hills beyond. The Turner Area is a less-travelled pocket of the central park, known for the natural springs that draw wildlife through the dry season, and the camp is permanent rather than mobile, working year round. The tents are styled in soothing earth tones with locally crafted furniture and soft ambient lighting, simple rather than elaborate, and built with natural materials and open layouts that keep the air moving. Each has an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, a comfortable bed with linen and blankets, mosquito nets and a private veranda or deck. Family, triple and twin layouts are available. Daily life runs between the dining tent, the bar and lounge, and the outdoor boma fireplace where the evening ends. Electricity comes from solar or a generator, housekeeping and an evening turndown are daily, and Wi-Fi reaches the common areas. Guest assistance runs around the clock. What sets Mwaloni apart is the permanent water nearby. Elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope and hippo are regularly seen from the tents themselves, and the birdlife is rich, while game drives around the Turner Area turn up lion, cheetah and leopard. The camp is unfenced, so an askari escorts guests after dark and the staff keep radio contact with the park authorities. The Great Migration passes through Central Serengeti during the shoulder seasons.
