Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp

Tanzania

About this stay

Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp is a tented camp set in the Ngorongoro Highlands, nestled beneath an acacia forest canopy at the foot of Mount Makarot, roughly 21 kilometres from the Ngorongoro crater rim and about four hours by road from Arusha. The camp pairs canvas construction with lodge-standard comforts: tents come in single, double or twin, and triple configurations, each with king or double beds, en-suite toilets, and adjustable flaps over mesh windows. In-tent amenities include Wi-Fi, hot and cool water, mosquito nets, electrical sockets, a radio-call system, and toiletries. Communal dining centres on a mess tent, with the option of a private meal beneath the camp's namesake Tortilis acacia. Activities reach beyond standard game drives to include hikes on Mount Makarot, which rises above 3,100 metres and offers distant views toward the Serengeti, along with visits to a local Maasai community for traditional wedding ceremonies and bush dinners under the stars. From the higher ground, guests take in crater views, including the salt lake and its flamingos.
