Masek Tented Lodge

Masek Tented Lodge, also listed by some agents as Lake Masek Tented Camp, sits on the shore of Lake Masek in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a short drive from the Ndutu woodlands and the short grass plains where the wildebeest herds calve between roughly December and April. The tents are permanent rather than mobile, each raised on a wooden platform with a private veranda looking over the water, an en-suite bathroom and a choice of king, twin or triple beds. Gauze panels let the breeze through while keeping the insects out. The main area holds a lounge, a small library, the dining room and a bar, and it opens onto a wooden viewing deck built out towards the lake, which is where most guests end up once the afternoon game drive is over. There is a swimming pool set among the acacias. The lodge runs on solar power, harvests rainwater through the rains and uses biodegradable products, so light and hot water follow the sun rather than a generator. It works best as a base for Ndutu and the southern Serengeti during the calving season.
