Karama Lodge & Spa

Karama Lodge and Spa sits atop Suye Hill on the Old Moshi Road just outside Arusha, built from local materials in a rustic, eco-friendly style within a natural forest setting. Part of the Wilderness Trails Group of Companies, it serves as a comfortable base for a northern circuit safari or a place to unwind afterward, and as a stopover before Kilimanjaro climbs. Twenty-two log cabins are raised on stilts among the trees, each with an en-suite bathroom, 24-hour hot water, mosquito nets and a private wooden balcony looking out over the peaks of Kilimanjaro and Meru, the Maasai steppe and the forest below. A honeymoon suite adds extra romance for couples. The lodge's amenities include a spa with massage treatments, a saltwater swimming pool, an open-deck lounge, a restaurant serving fresh Tanzanian and international dishes, a bar and a conference center. Guided walks up Suye Hill reveal the surrounding flora, fauna and birdlife, and the lodge partners with Tropical Trails for day trips to nearby national parks. Part of Karama's income supports the Arusha Children's Trust.
