Elewana Tortilis Camp

Tortilis Camp has the easy confidence of a place that got there first. Opened as Kenya original eco lodge, it occupies the quiet southwestern corner of the Amboseli ecosystem, where a private 30,000 acre concession means guided walks, night drives and a genuinely uncrowded view of Kilimanjaro, while most Amboseli traffic stays in the park east. Sixteen thatch roofed tents step down a gentle rise, each with hardwood floors, deep beds, generous fabrics and a veranda angled at the mountain, and a family tent and the self contained Tortilis Private House handle larger parties. The main area is all cool thatch and open sides: a lounge, a bar, a garden pool with loungers and a spa tucked among the acacias. Food is a real pleasure here, Italian in accent, with homemade pasta and bread and salads from the camp own kitchen garden. Add a firepit under an enormous sky, 400 plus bird species and a conservation lease that keeps the Kitirua corridor open for elephants, and Tortilis remains one of the most complete stays in Amboseli.
