Angama Amboseli

Angama Amboseli is the smaller, quieter sibling to Angama Mara, and it trades the Great Rift escarpment for something just as theatrical: Mount Kilimanjaro rising behind a forest of yellow fever trees, with Super Tusker elephants moving through it. Only ten tented suites sit in the 5,700 acre Kimana Sanctuary, a private conservancy on the corridor that links Amboseli to the Chyulu Hills, which means game drives happen on your own schedule and other vehicles are a rarity. The suites are contemporary without being cold, all curved concrete, pale canvas and rattan, with a super king bed, a dressing room, a double shower inside and another outside, and a deck of rocking chairs facing the mountain. Days drift between the rim raised pool, where elephants come to drink from a trough just below the waterline, the art gallery and photographic studio in the Studios building, and the baraza firepit after dinner. With two family suites, a games room and no age limit, it works as well for three generations as it does for two.
